Helpful hints on train fares
When to book: It’s best to book a train 10 weeks in advance of travel. If you book 12 weeks in advance the cheapest advance fares are unlikely to be available. If you book less than 10 weeks in advance the cheapest fares get gradually more expensive.
What destination to use: If possible book a ticket to Stirling.
However, if this seems ridiculously expensive try booking a train to Edinburgh or Glasgow (you can buy a ticket from there to Stirling on the day for about £8).
If this doesn’t work either try booking the most popular stretch of your journey e.g. Birmingham to Edinburgh
Where to book: Most train operating companies have the same fares but, if you’re travelling from the London area, East Anglia or Newcastle, you’ll find slightly cheaper fares on www.eastcoast.co.uk
