This retreat gives a precious opportunity to come together and form a community of practice over the winter period, with an emphasis on reflection, meditation, shared communication and ritual. During the retreat we'll hold a celebration of the solstice, and while the retreat runs over December 25th, we will not be celebrating Christmas as such.
The retreat themes are mindfulness and appreciation. In combination they are transformative, creating a spacious clarity that warms the heart. On this year’s retreat, Smritiratna will share teachings from his 24 years deepening into both qualities, during his time living in a forest cabin above Loch Voil.
In meditation, we will explore awareness of nature, of the body, feelings, emotions and thoughts, then kindly awareness of people and finally insight meditation into the true nature of mind.
You can expect up to six periods of meditation each day, of about 40 minutes each. There will also be teaching sessions. opportunities to share experience and we'll end the day with Buddhist devotional practice - puja or mantra. The majority of the retreat will be held in silence, with the opportunity for meditation reviews with members of the retreat team. For more information, read the retreat information sheet.
This retreat is suitable for people with at least six months regular meditation practice and who have attended at least one full week retreat before.
This retreat has a rich history of being a men-only space. We are open to bookings from a wider range of gender identities, in keeping with the tradition of this men-centred retreat. If you are unsure if this retreat is a good fit for you please get in touch.
