Working at Dhanakosa

Living and working at Dhanakosa: right livelihood for the 21st century

Living and working as part of the supported team at Dhanakosa there are two options, the Operations Team and the Senior Team. The Dhanakosa teams and community are open to people of all gender identities.

We are currently recruiting for:

  • Senior Team (one post and/or one trainee)

In this appointment round, we are prioritising House and Grounds Team management and Projects Delivery.

What is the Operations Team?

The Operations Team all live in the Dhanakosa Community (on the same site as the Retreat Centre) on our standard support package and are responsible for the day-today running of the Retreat Centre. Roles include office reception, office adminstration, housekeeping, general maintenance, gardening, cooking and the operational duty tasks associated with running a retreat centre. Operations Team members also frequently support retreats as organisers or as other members of retreat teams according to their skills and interests.

The Operations Team has a clear focus on work as practice and is primarily a training context where people can train for Ordination.  Places on the Operations Team are open to people who have asked for Ordination, Order Members who are interested in getting experience of living and working at a retreat centre, and people who interested in deepening their connection with Triratna but might not yet have asked for ordination (normally only on temporary work agreements).

The Operations Team work under the supervision and support of the Senior Team.

What is the Senior Team?

The Dhanakosa Senior Team is a group of Order Members who work together to deliver the organisational, spiritual, and strategic leadership of the Dhanakosa Trust.  And do so with a clear commitment to the deepening of their common Going For Refuge in the context of friendship, work and spiritual community.  The Senior Team work primarily across six key work areas; organisational management, financial management, operational management, delivery of projects, spiritual leadership, retreat leading quality and content. Individual members of the team normally specialise in two or three areas and the whole team co-works extensively, and engage in study together, and peer review.

The Senior Team contribute solid long-term commitment delivering stability, competence, and mature engagement.  They are offered a robust and flexible support package to match this commitment.  There are options for community living or independent living.  Pension arrangements are included. The Senior Team is led by the Centre Director and are ultimately answerable to the Trustees.

What are Senior Team trainee positions?

We recognise that the types of responsibility we are looking for from the Senior Team are relatively specialist within the Order.  And that there may be many Order Members who perhaps have the aptitude and aspiration to deliver this kind of responsibility for Triratna but may lack the experience.  Senior Team Trainee positions are one-year fixed term agreements where there is an emphasis on on-the-job training and buddying to help you develop relevant skills and experience.

At the end of your year there will normally be an option to apply for a full Senior Team position or take your skills and experience onwards to benefit other situations in Triratna.
