The play of the elements
Jayachitta has been a Buddhist since 1981 and has lived and worked with other Buddhists for a lot of that time. She has a deep love of performance and the infinity of human expression. 2002-4 she trained in physical theatre at Kiklos Scuola in Italy.
Since then she trained in Improvisation with Andrew Morrish, John Britton, Kate Hilder and others. Improvisation, movement and exploring the clown are very important to her as additional approaches to the spiritual life, as they are based in physical expression and play.
She sees them as an interactive way of entering and exploring the space that one discovers in meditation. It's in that spirit of play that we can discover who we are and can be. Please check out her website The Play of Now
Amoghavira first encountered Buddhism in 1979 while struggling through a mathematics degree at Glasgow University. Ordained into the Western Buddhist Order in 1982 he then started working at the Glasgow Buddhist Centre.
He worked for 2 years at the Sydney Buddhist Centre in Australia from 1988, and on his way back to Britain in 1990, spent 3 months in Kathmandu helping run meditation and Buddhism course there. Falling in love with Nepal, he’s been a regular visitor there ever since.
In 1996, he moved to Dhanakosa to help with retreat leading here, which he’s been doing ever since. He loves being in the mountains and this has led to a passion for landscape photography and he now lives in the village of Callander, about 15 miles from Dhanakosa.
Open to all, these retreats are suitable for both beginners and those with more experience, but no previous experience is assumed. All these retreats include introductory meditation teaching and periods of silence.
How do the elements around us, and in us, move? How can we be part of that playful engagement rather than stand apart? In this retreat we are researching the meeting points of movement with stillness by exploring the Five Elements (Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Space) in our own bodies, in meditation, in nature and in the way we relate to one another.
In meditation and in movement improvisation we enter the unknown, a dance with ever new experience. Joining this dance, we bridge the gap between stillness and engagement. Practicing indoors and in nature, we find our unique place in the elemental play of the world.
Easy physical improvisational exercises will help us to become more present, and open to more light and joy. This will enrich our attention within and outside of meditation with the spirit of discovery.
